Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A New York woman has a high flying goal. She's setting out to see just how friendly the skies can be with a few not-too-common travel plans.

Amber Nolan is traveling the country trying to visit all 50 states by hitching rides with private pilots.

Amber Nolan - JetHiking Gypsy: "There's a lot more to it than getting from point A to point B."

Amber Nolan has touched down in Fargo in the midst of making a name for herself in the skyways as the JetHiking Gypsy.

Amber Nolan: "Almost everyone just looks at me and goes, 'You can do that?'"

She hitches rides with private pilots, and is trying to see all 50 states from a new perspective thousands of feet in the air.

Amber Nolan: "Just kind of the shock factor and then afterwards, God, that's a cool idea."

Now, Amber's life is flying by, full of new states, cities, and aviation friends, like the Minneapolis man who landed herin Fargo, North Dakota. It's state number 40.

Amber Nolan: "It's very last minute, so sometimes someone is leaving to get into a plane, I hop on, and then I have to find a place to stay on the ground - and all of this is on a shoestring budget."

The plane and pilot only take her so far. When they land, Amber is left to figure out the rest. She says Fargo has been one of her easier stops.

Amber Nolan: "Right away everyone is very, very friendly, very outgoing."

Now taking to our city's streets, she's hoping to find a small slice of adventure to add to her story.

Amber Nolan: "I hung out with a voodoo priestess in New Orleans. She blessed my friend Erin's airplane. We've done aerobatic rolls on planes, I've slept on grass strip runways. You name it, the list goes on and on."

As for her next stop, that's still up in the air.

Amber Nolan: "It puts the fun back in flying a little bit."
