Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Michael Neugebauer remains the name and face behind one of North Dakota's most horrific crimes. In January of 1992, Ron Neugebauer, his wife and two children were brutally killed. Tonight, the dreadful story of the mass murders and how Michael denied his role in their deaths.

It would be on a cold winter day in 1992 that the quiet of tiny Menoken, North Dakota would be broken forever by a gruesome, bloody discovery. The bodies of farmer Ron Neugebauer, his wife Maureen, daughter Michelle, 16, and son Ryan, 13, who was found shot in the head as he cowered in the corner of his bedroom. All were murdered.

On the run was son Michael Neugebauer, just 15, who fled North Dakota with his girlfriend, resulting in a nationwide manhunt. They were considered armed and dangerous. They were finally captured in Florida a week after the murders.

In an interview with WDAY from prison, Neugebauer continued to deny his role in the murders. Neugebauer claims he was a victim of his father's rage. Prosecutors never bought into Neugebauer's claims. In fact they say he often changed his stories as to what really happened that day. The bottom line, authorities say, is that he killed his entire family, and then went to play on a Florida beach.

Neugabauer is being held in a Federal Prison in southwest Virginia. He is now 37.
