GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — The first piece to a proposed veterans memorial park has arrived in Grand Forks.

It's a 24,000-pound anchor from a Navy ammunition ship.

The Grand Forks Herald reports that the anchor from the USS Kiska was transported on a semi-truck from Texas to North Dakota. It was unloaded by crane last week into a park district storage facility.

The anchor is on loan from the U.S. Maritime Administration. The city will not have to pay for the anchor, but the contract requires that it be kept in good condition.

Other plans for the park include a tank, fighter jet and other military equipment.
