Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- It may only take about 10-minutes to drive across town, but it was quite a journey for a group making their way through town in covered wagons today.

Bonanzaville kicked off the 55th Annual Pioneer Days with its second crossing of the Red River Ceremony.

A caravan of pioneers on horseback and in covered wagons made their way over the first avenue bridge to symbolize the first pioneers crossing into North Dakota.

The journey across town to Bonanzaville took about two hours.

Troy White- Bonanzaville Executive Director: "We want to bring attention to the event and just remember why we're all here. And that's what Bonanzaville stands for. It's our history and it's our heritage."

Pioneer days at Bonanzaville continue through Sunday.
