Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- North Dakota Senator Heidi Heitkamp is trying to improve certain aspects of the state's housing market.
Heitkamp, in Fargo today, says her efforts will include: reforming the country's housing finance system, fighting for more affordable, quality housing and raising awareness about North Dakota's unique housing needs.
Heitkamp also says she'd like to see improved efforts on making home-buying in North Dakota easier for veterans, along with having more options for the homeless.
Sen. Heidi Heitkamp- (D) North Dakota: "What we're seeing is not being able to buy a lot for less than 80,00 dollars and when I tell you I'd like to see some single family homes in the $160,000-200,000 range, how do you do that when the lot is $80,000."
Because of the state's economic boom, it's estimated by 2025, North Dakota will need 30% more housing units.
