MnDOT hopes new cable barriers can prevent serious crashes

Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - The people who deal with crashes in medians are back in the classroom. MnDOT is showing emergency responders and tow-truck drivers how their new cable barriers work.

Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - The people who deal with crashes in medians are back in the classroom. MnDOT is showing emergency responders and tow-truck drivers how their new cable barriers work.

Today was in-the-field training. Crews have been installing the cable medians barriers along I-94. By placing the barriers in specific locations, officials say they can prevent fatal and serious injury crashes.

Jereimiah Moerke - Minnesota Department of Transportation: "Their primary purpose is to prevent cars from crossing into the median. That's when we have some of the really bad crashes and accidents with really bad result."

MnDOT has installed more than 300 miles of cable median barrier in the last 10 years.
