Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - For the second time in as many days, a Fargo car prowler is behind bars thanks to a citizen tip. The early morning call led police to south Fargo, where they say another group of prowlers was trying to get into vehicles.

Police say they received an anonymous phone call around 1:45 Wednesday morning of 3 car prowlers around the US Bank Service Center in South Fargo. The caller told them the men were going through vehicles and checking for unlocked doors in the parking lot.

Lieutenant Joel Vettel – Fargo Police: “We really rely on the cooperation of the public in trying to solve these crimes as quickly as possible, because we know if we don't catch them in the act, the job of solving these crimes becomes much more difficult.

Thanks to the tip police were able to track down 20 year-old Victor Solo a few blocks away. They were not able to find the other two suspects, but say Solo was inside a car that wasn't his parked near an apartment building. Solo is the 5th person arrested for car prowling in Fargo, in only two weeks and police say those 5 people can be tracked to about 35 different cases.

Lieutenant Joel Vettel: "We certainly see time of year where these types of crimes are more prevalent. Certainly when the weather is nice, we see more of the behavior."

Vettel says although the numbers may seem high, there has not been a significant increase in car prowling cases compared to this time last year.

Police say Solo faces charges of unlawful vehicle entry, as well as hindering and resisting officers. They say if you see a crime in progress the best thing to do is call 9-1-1.
