BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — No teams from the Dakotas are in the NAIA football preseason poll, though Valley City State did receive some votes.

National runner-up Morningside of Iowa begins the season as the top-ranked team; 2012 champion Marian of Indiana came in second despite receiving eight first-place votes to Morningside's four. Morningside had more total points in the coaches' poll.

Missouri Valley got the other first-place vote in the poll and came in third.

Valley City State finished last season 7-3 and ranked No. 24 in the country. The Vikings got some votes in this year's preseason poll, but not enough to crack the Top 25.

The first regular season poll will be announced Sept. 16.
