Wahpeton, ND (WDAY TV) - A strong storm plowed through Wahpeton-Breckenridge this evening, ripping and throwing pieces of tress and buildings throughout the cities.

For one business the roof is basically gone. Witnesses say it was terrifying. There was so much debris scattered through town, authorities in a large part of Minnesota Avenue was closed in Breckenridge, including the bridge that connects the two cities.

Here's what it looked like tonight in the southern valley, watch as the wind really picks up here.

Here's the scene to follow - Cleanup is underway on Minnesota Avenue in Breckenridge. It had 3 feet of standing water, and large sheets of debris, it had to be shut down. People working nearby saw the storm forming.

Brian Nepple - DQ Owner: "All of the sudden the wind just pushed, and it pushed us against the brick up here so I said uh oh this isn't going to be good."

The roof is now gone to the Mobile EFX building, crunched like a piece of tin foil in the street. Insulation from the building is now caked on cars.

Deb Mattern and Wilma Hansen were working next door, hiding in the bathroom when things got ugly.

Wilma Hansen - Breckenridge: "We did pray, we prayed a lot."

Deb Mattern: "We were terrified, we were terrified. Our hope was to get out of here before it hit, but I could see it wasn't going to happen."

This storm did produce a tornado in Richland County that touched down near Colfax.

Back in Breckenridge, crews continue the clean up effort. Roads are back open, but the damage will show for weeks to come.
