Candlelight vigil to honor Wisconsin Sikh victims

OAK CREEK, Wis. (AP) — Sikhs in the Milwaukee area will hold a candlelight vigil for the six people killed a year ago by a white supremacist.

OAK CREEK, Wis. (AP) — Sikhs in the Milwaukee area will hold a candlelight vigil for the six people killed a year ago by a white supremacist.

The event will be held Monday evening in the parking lot of the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin.

Monday is the one-year anniversary of the shooting rampage, in which five other worshippers and a police officer were also injured. The gunman killed himself.

Temple members have been paying tribute to the victims all weekend, with a series of religious rituals and a 6-kilometer run. They say their aim is to practice "Chardi Kala", the Sikh principle of constant optimism even in the face of adversity.

Sens. Ron Johnson and Tammy Baldwin, as well as Gov. Scott Walker, have joined them in remembrance events.
