(WDAY TV) -- Authorities in Clay County have just recovered the body of a man who drowned in a gravel pit in Felton.

Our crew just got back from the scene. We have just learned the victim is a 26 year old man. Authorities say he was with 5 people in a boat on a water filled gravel pit. When some of them jumped out to go swimming.

The victim's friend called 911 about 7:30 p.m. saying the man went under the water and he hadn't been seen in about 20 minutes. Dozens of rescue crews were called to the scene with special equipment, including Valley Water Rescue.

After searching for about an hour and a half, they recovered the man's body.

Authorities say the water in the gravel pit is nearly 100 feet deep and is cold water.

Bergquist says the gravel pit is well known to authorities as a party spot, and says technically anyone on it is trespassing. The victim's name is not yet being released - we'll bring you new information as we get it.
