The number of burglaries in Fargo has surged, overall crime has dropped

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- The number of burglaries in Fargo has surged, even though overall crime has dropped.

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- The number of burglaries in Fargo has surged, even though overall crime has dropped.

In the first seven months of the year, there have been 311 burglaries, up 38% from this time last year.

Many were garage break-ins.

Other property crimes are down three-percent, and personal crimes rose 2.5%.

Police urge the public to make sure doors are closed and locked.

LT. Joel Vettel- Fargo Police Department: "Most of our incidents have been those crimes of opportunity. People that have been victims of crimes because of circumstances that relate to doors being unlocked, garage overhead doors being left open."
