Detroit Lakes, MN (WDAY TV) - There's still time to buy tickets for the 31st annual WE-Fest. The three day country music festival beginning Thursday is expected to bring in thousands of people.
John Gourley - WE-Fest Vice President: "It will be a huge, incredible weekend."
It's kind of hard to believe from the scene now that more than 45,000 some people will be out here on Thursday all to take in some country music. Headlining artists like Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood and Eric Church are sure to impress - but what may be more impressive is their entourage.
John Gourley: "Some of these shows tours with 20 or 30 semis worth of gear, so the amount of activity backstage in terms of putting this show together goes on right up until show time."
Final preparations are underway. Sponsor signs are being hung up, VIP chairs set out and the stage is taking shape. Come Tuesday, the festival’s 10 campgrounds will begin filling up with 30,000 registered campers.
John Gourley: "Each and every year we have a Wednesday night free kickoff party for all of the people that come in and camp early. People have been coming earlier and earlier each year, so this year we're inaugurating a new Tuesday night free party with music."
It’s a jump start on the biggest local country music gathering, something WE-Fest President John Gourley says local retailers aren't frowning upon.
John Gourley: "We have retailers from Detroit Lakes and in between here and Fargo who say that across the board every year this is their highest grossing weekend."
Gourley says you can still get in on the fun; some general admission tickets are available.
2014 tickets are already on sale with headliners the Zac Brown Band, Jason Aldean and Brad Paisley. Three other major artists will be announced this weekend.
