Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- At this time last year, John Carlson was one of the Vikings big off-season pickups. But, the hometown talent was a flop in his first season in purple.

Carlson caught just 8 passes for 43 yards. His worst season by far.

As training camp gets underway, the Litchfield native is determined to get back to the form he once showed in Seattle when he caught 50 passes in each of his first two seasons.

As for his miserable 2012, well, he's ready to put that behind him.

John Carlson- Vikings Tight end: "Yeah, it's over. I'm excited to have another opportunity this year and the focus is on that. Last year is last year. I'm focused on what ever I can do to help this team this year and trying to personally take a step forward every day and try to improve. It sound simple, but it's kind of the recipe. John is a team oriented player. He's disappointed because he wants to contribute. But, his role contributed to us winning 10 games last year. We would like his role to expand this year and still win as many games if not more."

A couple of notes from today's practice, Vikings special teams coordinator Mike Priefer said rookie wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson is his top option at kick returner this season. Also, No serious injuries to report so far.
