Hundreds of Native Americans gather on Spirit Lake Nation

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- Hundreds of Native Americans came together on the Spirit Lake Nation to celebrate their heritage at the 146th annual Fort Totten Days Pow Wow.

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- Hundreds of Native Americans came together on the Spirit Lake Nation to celebrate their heritage at the 146th annual Fort Totten Days Pow Wow.

Tribes from around the U.S. and Canada are represented at the three day gathering.

This afternoon, more than 30 drum groups played as dancers in full regalia came in during the "grand entry" for the pow wow.

Terry Fiddler from the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe says his forebearers were prohibited from celebrating their culture, but that his and future generations are doing what they can to keep it alive.

Terry Fiddler- Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe: "Our young people nowadays there's a real resursange, in our history and our culture. There's a pride in our young boys that stand here."

There was a special ceremony today to honor native american veterans, especially Korean War veterans. Today marks the 60th anniversary of the end of the Korean War.

The three day pow wow wraps up tomorrow with a parade at eleven a.m. in Fort Totten.
