Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- Last year on the opening day of training camp, Adrian Peterson's knee was a concern and the playoffs were an afterthought following an embarrassing 3-13 season.
Today, playoffs are the expectation and Peterson, well we all know how that turned out. WDAY 6 sports director.
Day one of Vikings training is here and for the 48th straight season Mankato is the home to it. Now if the Vikes want to make the playoffs this year, they know they won't sneak up on anyone this season.
Jared Allen- 2012-13: 12 Sacks: "Last game we played, we got embarrassed in Green Bay, so if that wasn't motivation and realization to what we have to get to. Ultimate goal isn't making it to the playoffs, lotta teams, lotta guys make the playoffs. But we really get judged on how many rings we get, right? There's lots of guys that play a whole career and don't get one--I don't wanna be one of those guys. So yeah, you can build on that because you saw some progress in different places, you know you have what it takes to win, but we need it to be more consistent."
John Sullivan- Vikings Center: "We're not concerned with what everyone else is thinking. We're concerned about going out every day and getting better. There's a long time before the season actually starts and we have a long way to go before expectations come into play."
Leslie Frazier= Vikings Head Coach: "I think for all our players and coaches, the most important thing to do is be in this moment and play as hard as we can for each other, take care of what we can control and we'll see what happens down the road."
Harrison Smith- 2013-13: 104 Tackles (2nd on Team): "We're not focused on what's said about us outside of our own team or who puts the spotlight on us. We are concerned with getting better every day and reaching the Super Bowl.
If the Vikings have one thing going in their favor at the start of training camp, it's that for the first time in more than a decade, there are no questions under center, Christian Ponder is Leslie Frazier's guy.
One other storyline on opening day, was when Adrian Peterson was asked about the NFL's decision to start testing for HGH, Peterson said he's as clean as a whistle, but believes there are NFL players that use performance enhancing drugs.
