Suspect in North Dakota hit-and-run death faces new charge

DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) — A man accused of negligent homicide in a hit-and-run death in Dickinson late last year now faces an additional charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving a death.

DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) — A man accused of negligent homicide in a hit-and-run death in Dickinson late last year now faces an additional charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving a death.

Both charges against Timothy Menges are felonies. The Dickinson Press reports that the new charge filed earlier this month means he could face up to 15 years in prison rather than just five years if convicted.

Menges allegedly was driving drunk last November when he struck and killed 47-year-old Tracy Freer in a motel parking lot. Authorities say Menges struck Freer after Freer accosted him for almost running over his dog.

Menges' attorney has said the death is unfortunate but doesn't rise to the level of negligence.
