West Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- The West Fargo school district is fighting to keep up with growth.
The board voted tonight on building a new elementary school.
It was approved unanimously, and the projected numbers show it'll only buy the district a couple of years.
We've done countless reports on West Fargo's unprecedented growth, the most grabbing example is likely in its elementary schools.
Freedom elementary opened last year at capacity. Before the 2nd new elementary school even gets a name, the board has now approved a 3rd elementary.
The latest will be built on 52nd Avenue, and open fall of 2015.
The board is using 2 voter approved bonds to fund the 11 to 13 million dollar project.
A community long term planning committee looked at 4 scenarios, some of which took a new elementary school to a public vote, but 90 percent of committee told the board to move ahead with another elementary school.
Dr. David Flowers- West Fargo Superintendent: "They did want another sounding board so they didn't make the decision in isolation and I think they mentioned transparency and that's something this board has done from the beginning on these facility needs."
A vote was avoided this time, but the district will likely be at capacity by the end of the decade at which point a vote for a new bond would likely be needed.
