Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- After a couple months of planning, North Dakota now has its very first competitive shooting team. FASTT, short for Fargo Area Scholastic Target Team, had its first ever State Championship today at the shooting park in Horace.

Since it's the first target team in North Dakota, today was an inter-squad competition. The team has 24 members, ranging from ages 12 to 18, and along with shooting, stresses responsible gun handling.

Cade Peterson- West Fargo, ND (Age 12): "I've been hunting since I was young, this is my first year doing trap. It's fun and challenging."

Mark Sahli- Fastt Head Coach: "To have other states around us that have so many teams for us to kind of be just getting going is kind of surprising but the goal is to get as many teams going in the state so that we can have competition within the teams."

The next step for these kids is to make the national tournament, with a lot of them having dreams to make the olympics.
