Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- It's the largest outdoor event in North Dakota,
the downtown Street Fair.
With hundreds of thousands of valuables out in the open, we asked just how many items have been stolen.
I've counted 264 booths out here. Now, lets say about 10 customers are at each stand. That's more than 2,000 people. But somehow it's all kept under control with only 4 security officers.
"I love this show, it's a great show."
There are many ups to having your own spot on Broadway, during one of biggest events in town. And with all the people...
Shawna Davidson also knows there's a down side too.
"I know I get lots of things taken."
Live Out Loud Designs showcases so many odds and ends. Davidson admits, she can't keep track of it all.
"I have lots of eyes with me. You have to have that when it's so busy."
So, she brings her own security squad to help keep watch.
"I bring my girls, or my mom or my husband with and I put them in certain location in my booth."
But when she finishes for the day. ASP officers are just beginning theirs.
"we've had a few incidents."
24 hours a day for three days straight, four officers patrol the area.
"you need to be aware of whats around you.You know you can't just walk straight down. You know, you gotta look all around."
And in all this time, through 38 annual fairs. Robbie Martins swears, these streets are secure.
"i'm not worried at all here, I know we have the roaming cameras and there's always people around."
We asked how much it costs to keep this area safe, ASP says it's a hefty price. But it's worth it.
