Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - If you're heading out to the street fair, you might want to think about leaving your young kids or pets behind.

With the temperature and the heat index so high, they have trouble keeping cool. For the street fair's opening day, a lot of people had their babies and toddlers in strollers, some with covers blocking the sun.

There weren't too many pets out but those that were made sure to get enough to drink. So if you do decide to bring them along, remember to keep them hydrated and out of the hot sun.

Kristin Curry, Fargo: “I think of him, he's like us. It's hot. He needs water like we do. So I stopped and I bought him his own water.”

Medical officials say kids and pets usually get more aggravated in the heat.
