GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Authorities say a Canadian man accused of illegally entering the United States after he had been deported plans to plead guilty in federal court.

Forty-six-year-old Leonard Duke Vandal was originally arrested for drinking alcohol on a public street in Grand Forks. Authorities say Vandal uncooperative and threatened police when he was apprehended last month.

Vandal told police his name was Christopher James St. Claire and said he was a dual citizen of the U.S. and Canada.

Criminal records checks through the U.S. Border Patrol discovered that Vandal had previous felony convictions for aggravated assault, aggravated robbery and kidnapping, and served prison time in North Dakota and Minnesota.

Vandal's lawyer filed notice Wednesday that his client intends to change his plea to guilty.
