Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A clarification from the DNR about a story we brought you last night.
The man in our story said birds can spread invasive species from lake to lake. The DNR says humans are the culprits.
Officials today say Lake Lida in Otter Tail County is the latest to be infested with zebra mussels. That's why it's encouraging everyone to be vigilant about cleaning their boats, to prevent the spread.
Joe Eisterhold: "We feel, within the DNR here, that with the laws that are in place, we can slow the spread of invasive species and it's not an inevitable thing at that point. We have proof in Minnesota that we have curbed the spread of these invasive species."
DNR officials said that if birds could spread invasive species, they would likely already be in every lake.
