Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- Joe Mauer and Glen Perkins played in the same high school all-star game as Minnesota preps. Tonight the stage and the names will be a little different.

As the two take part in the 84th annual MLB all-star game at New York's Citi Field.

Perkins, a former Gopher, has been a terrific closer when given the chance.

He boasts an ERA of 1.82 and has piled up 21 saves.

Meanwhile, this will be the 6th All-star game for Mauer,

who ranks third in the American league with a .320 batting average. Among the questions Mauer was hit with, was why are the Twins struggling.

Joe Mauer- Minnesota Twins: "I think with how young we are. Guys are learning. They're getting experience. I think that's a positive you can take out. Guys are learning and hopefully this second half, we can make a run here."

The game starts at 7 o'clock. After tonight, we can officially look forward to next year's all-star game which we be played at Target Field.
