Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- On days as hot as this, one way to cool off is to make a splash.

That's what pool businesses are doing across the metro. More people want to bring "luxury" to their own backyards.

Not only are swimmers eager to dive in and cool off here at Island Park, there are many people taking full advantage right from home.

“What we're doing right now is this vacuum right here is sucking all the air out.”

When its hot outside, Steve Olson spends his day making sure everyone else has a way to cool down.

Steve Olson- Olson Pools & Spas Owner: “This is the way to go let me tell ya.”

He owns Olson Pools and Spas out of Hawley... And this season, business is booming.

Olson: "This spring the weather kind of turned on us for awhile, so things go delayed a bit. But once it turned again it's been beautiful."

Business for him is up about 200 percent..

And they're not just going in ground, but above ground too.

Olson: "Just because they're more price point driven"

An above ground pool is a quick fix for this heat... Starting around 5 thousand dollars and going up in a day.

For pools in ground, costs are roughly 8 times that much.

Olson: "This one will be filled by roughly 6 o'clock tomorrow morning."

And in a little less than two weeks, your empty backyard can go to looking something like this.

Courtney Hedstrom- Detroit Lakes Swimmer: “For hot days, it's perfect.”

Courtney Hedstrom has enjoyed her poolside summers with friends for the last few years.

Hedstrom: "My dad just brought it up one day, he was like what would you kids think about a pool, and we we're like you can't really go wrong."

Especially with increasing lakeside property costs. When you can have a pool installed right out your window, for much less.

Olson: "What's really nice about a pool in your backyard is that you kind of create your own oasis."

Courtney: You don't have to go be crowded with everyone at the lake."

Olson tells me he used to put in around 8 pools each summer, and this year he's expecting anywhere from 18 to 20.
