Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- The National Register of Historic Places is adding one more place to its list, and its right here in North Dakota.

Historic Alderman School District, located about 10 miles north of Valley City, has been around since the early 1900's.

Other than minor repairs, the building remains in nearly original condition.

Entry into the National Register of Historic Places includes perks such as property prestige and federal funding.

Becky Heise- Researcher of Barnes County Historical Society: "Many of the members of our group are elderly and don't have a lot of money to go around, so if you want to do something, we have grants. It's a big step for us."

Alderman school closed its doors in 1959 and the district was annexed into Valley City.
