Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- Short and sweet. That best describes the strawbeery season this year.
Berry farmers say their crops just blossomed around the 4th of July. And the season is already coming to a close.
These red, succulent strawberries weren't ripe for the picking until just days before the 4th of July.

Robert Moll, Owner of Moll's Berry Farm says the berries were about two weeks behind schedule.

It wasn't the cold, damp weather this spring that affected the crop instead, the opposite.
"Very warm days and very warm nights so the berries don't have a chance to get any larger before they ripen up."
No matter the size people are coming to enjoy hand picked fresh fruit.
With four varieties of berries there is something for everyone's taste buds.
If you're not sure what strawberries to pick Kate and Hannah Walseth two sisters have some berry good advice.
Kate Walseth- Came to Pick Strawberries: "You should look for big ones if you can find them and they should be shiny and red and you should look on the bottom - if they're squishy and flat and pink then you shouldn't get those because those are the kinds that have been on the floor, squished for a while."
Within 30 minutes they'd picked a bucket full.
Kate Walseth- Came to Pick Strawberries: "We're going to make strawberry pie and we're also going to make strawberry ice cream."
If you can't make it out to pick strawberries, Moll says fresh raspberries will be ripe next week.
