Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- One of the fastest growing "extreme" activities in the nation are mud run obstacle courses. There are now too many too count throughout the U-S.

This morning in Grand Forks, a different type of extreme event took place. The second annual "Extreme North Dakota Watersports Endurance Test", or END-WET..for short, got going on the Red River. Swimmers from all around the country came to participate in the 27-mile marathon swim from Grand Forks to Oslo.

The race is one of the longest of its kind in the country as participants see if they can go the distance. It takes most up to 13 hours to complete. In just its second year, the event has already doubled in participants.

Andy Magness- Event Organizer: "We think it's gonna keep growing, gotten a lot of feedback from the swimmers at how well it's organized. And just the small town feel and the nature of the river.

Scott Jensen- Participant: "I'm never gonna beat young kids in the pool, never beat those that are really trained up but I can do endurance type events. That's why I did it."
