Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- 5 years ago, they gave it a try and it folded after one season.

But, a new group is in to try and make semi-pro football work in Fargo-Moorhead.

The Minnesota Lumberjacks held tryouts at Shanley high school tonight,

that's where they plan to play there 3 home games this fall.

JJ Kern the coach and owner of the team, has operated a spring season team out of Brainerd the last 5 years.

The season begins next month, and the team will play an 8-game regular season, with all games on Saturdays.

Kern knows the history, but he's here to make it work.

James Kern- Lumberjacks Owner & Coach: "If I was a brand new team and I was a brand new guy I don't know if I would take on the challenge. But I've owned a team for five years, part of team. So we are just excited to put that in the past and play some football."

Brock Drayton- West Fargo: "I've been missing it, kinda dreaming about it, just kind of missing football, missing contact. It's a chance to play football after college and it's a good opportunity to meet some new guys and have fun again."

They have 25 players on the roster, and they're hoping these tryouts will add some more talented players.
