West Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - If you're hoping to take the family to the fair, be sure you bring enough cash. Tonight we take a look at how you can enjoy the fair on a budget.
The best bet is to plan ahead, whether you're going to the fair alone or with a family of seven. The average price of food is between $5 and $10.
I'd like one ticket please. Eight dollars and we're not even in the gate yet. I don't know how far this $50 is going to go.
I soon found out I wasn't the only one trying to have fun on a budget.
"I came here with about $100; Tickets for the kids and food."
And the cost of tickets adds up quickly.
I owe you $4? We are off to go do the Ferris Wheel.
Every ticket costs a dollar, so the Ferris Wheel is four tickets, $4. You can spend $30 a day for an unlimited wrist band or $70 for the entire week.
The Domier family from Casselton bought four wristbands, totaling $120, but that's not all.
Heidi Domier, Casselton: "We've probably spent maybe $40 in addition to what we've done with the bands between games and food and all of those things."
If wild rides aren't your thing there is always the Fun Slide, but it's another four tickets, $4. While in the Midway I decided to play a game. Unfortunately, even though I found out I have terrible aim, everyone here is a winner so I get a sock monkey.
What trip to the fair would be complete without fair food? Cheese curds, $6. The Man Eater with fries and a drink, all for $12.
Not everything at the fair costs money, it's free to watch the live entertainment or browse the 4H exhibits.
I came to the fair for an afternoon of fun with $50 in my pocket. After getting some mini doughnuts for the road, I have $7 left.
It was a breeze to spend nearly $50 on myself this afternoon. If you're going to bring a large family, the best bet is to plan ahead. The average price of food per item is between $5 and $10 and as I mentioned unless you get a wrist band, every ride ticket is a dollar. You can break the bank and fast.
