Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - Construction could soon be taking place for new student housing in Moorhead.
The Minnesota Department of Economic development, or DEED, awarded the city $479,000 to clean up five acres of polluted land. A ready-mix plant use to be on the property and it's also contaminated with petroleum.
In all, 66 apartment units would be built with the lower level being used for retail space.
Scott Hutchins, Moorhead/Director of Community Services: “The location is really a good one, next to MSUM and Concordia of course on first Avenue North and has tremendous traffic count. It's a very strong connector throughout the metro a nice east and west roadway.”
The only set back now is that the contractor's plans are near $1 million and only half a million was granted. Hutchins says they'll look at other financial avenues to hopefully make the project a success.
