Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - It was a welcome feeling underneath the feet of Bison football players last year, when they got to break in the brand new AstroTurf at Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome. Now, they'll get to practice outside on that same surface.

If you remember, the first turf put into the Fargodome was removed after just two months because of a glitch in the underlay.

NDSU decided to still buy it and that's what's being installed on the middle practice field south of the BSA. The Bison were expecting it to be ready for the start of fall camp but the wet summer has pushed things up against that deadline.

Gene Taylor, NDSU Athletic Director: “They've got some detailed grading that they have to do and until it's real dry underneath they can't get out there. The AstroTurf company needs 21 days to put their turf down. So, I think July 11th is when we start getting backed up to wear we miss fall camp, so we got to get it in.”

The cost of the turf was $350,000 dollars.
