Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - It's an annual tradition in Fargo-Moorhead, eating cherries for a good cause.
The 31st annual Cherries for Charity event kicked off. Now through next Tuesday, you can buy cherries at all six Hornbachers locations in the area to support the rape and abuse crisis center and the YWCA of Cass-Clay.
This year Hornbachers will be doubling their donation to 50 cents per pound of all Washington Bing Cherries sold.
Nicole Ellis, F-M Cosmopolitan Club: “Normally its between $20,000 and $25,000 that we raise so hopefully this year, you know maybe we can double it, maybe we can have the biggest year we've ever had.”
This event has raised more than $289,000, that's equivalent to 1.1 million pounds of cherries.
