Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- More than 100 firefighters and 12 fire departments helped battle a blaze that brought downtown Fergus Falls to a standstill.

Fire crews were still on scene this morning after the fire broke out around 10:30 last night on West Lincoln Avenue.

Flames destroyed the building, including five businesses and five apartments, leaving eight people without a place to stay.

Firefighters believe the fire started from an electrical problem in the attic. Most everything inside is a total loss.

Chief Mark Hovland- Fergus Falls Fire Department: "We got to a point where we had to pull the crew out and we went to a ladder defensive mode then we switched back to an offensive mode so we were back and forth. It was a tough fire to get at and the guys, they worked hard. That's why we brought it so many different departments."

Two firefighters were injured. One suffered heat exhaustion and the other broke his arm.
