BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Geologists say North Dakota's state Capitol shook a little 45 years ago.

State geologists say the earthquake struck the state on July 8, 1968. Its magnitude was measured at 4.4 — enough to rattle dishes — and its epicenter was reported southwest of Huff.

Geologists say the quake was felt over a 3,000-square-mile area.

The U.S. Geological Survey has information on at least 12 other earthquakes in the state but geologists say the 1968 earthquake is the only one verified by instruments to have an epicenter in North Dakota.
