FARGO – Jean Guy, wife of former North Dakota governor William Guy, died Friday morning in Fargo. She was 90.
The former first lady’s death comes two weeks after suffering a stroke, and just two months after her husband died April 26 at age 93 from complications of Alzheimer’s. The pair had been married for 70 years.
“Their marriage was, in every way, a true and loving partnership. Life had not been the same for Mom since Dad’s passing in April,” her five children wrote in a statement. “We take comfort in knowing that they are now together again.”
William Guy served as governor of North Dakota for 12 years, from 1961 to 1973.
In a statement, family friend and U.S. Court of Appeals judge Myron Bright called her a “beautiful, intelligent lady” and “a truly accomplished woman.”
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
