GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — A heavily recruited hockey player from Canada has decided to play for the University of North Dakota.

Ryan Gropp had 12 goals and 31 points in 50 games last season playing for the Penticton Vees of the British Columbia Hockey League.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound forward tells the Grand Forks Herald (http://bit.ly/126pJZY) that his visit to UND early in the week impressed him. He says the coaching staff made him feel at home and that Engelstad Arena on campus "blew me away."

Gropp likely will join UND in the fall of 2014.
