Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - While many people love the colorful explosions on the fourth, for pets it's not so fun.

The ASPCA advises people to resist urge to take pets to fireworks displays, as loud noises can set them on edge. Also, never set off fireworks around curious pets to avoid any burns or trauma.

Matt Rubis says dogs he has owned tend to freak out when they hear the explosions.

Matt Rubis, Dog Owner: "Just something they're not used to. It happens once a year and we kind of know it's coming, but they have no idea. They're sitting there going, 'I wonder what the heck is going on?' So, it's important to keep a close eye on them."

The best thing to do for a pet is to keep them sheltered from the noise in a quiet, escape-proof spot at home.
