Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - When you think of North Dakota, you don't think of it being a recruiting hotbed for girls soccer. But some young ladies in Fargo-Moorhead are trying to change all that. The Tri-City Storm Under-17 girls team will make history later this month in Florida at the National tournament.

Rachel Osmundson has been to Florida for family vacations but her next trip will be a little different.

Rachel Osmundson, Tri-City Storm U-17: “Definitely never thought, feel like this, get this opportunity. We thought Kansas was a big deal for regionals now that we're going to Florida. It's surreal for us.”

Osmundson is part of the Tri-City under-17 soccer team that won the Midwest regional in Kansas last month to qualify for the four team National President's Cup tournament in the sunshine state.

How rare is that? This will be the first team ever from North Dakota to make the trip.

Anna Reinholz, Tri-City Storm U-17: “Scouts come into this event more that come to Fargo or any tournaments that we go to otherwise. So it'll be great experience having that level coaches watching us.”

Ben Schneweist, Technical Director & U-17 Girls Coach: “To have an opportunity to go to Florida is one thing. To be able to do something that only four teams is one thing. To be the first from North Dakota and play for a national championship is something special.”

Hang around this soccer team for more than five minutes and you'll figure out why they're one of the best teams in the country.

Osmundson: “We connect really well our playing is just good together.”

Schneweist: “This group is a passionate dedicated group want to play at a high level and fortunately we've been able to go to some high quality events and play well.”

And if they play well enough, this vacation could result in the best souvenir of them all, a national championship.

The national President's Cup tournament runs July 10th thru July 14th in Auburndale, Florida.
