Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- It's been quite the ride for Ben Welle, from relative unknown about a year and a half ago, to Minnesota State champion to now receiving a scholarship to golf at Kansas University.

He had a pit stop along the way in Scottsdale; Arizona where he was named a

junior college All-American.

It was kind of an expectation; kind of a surprise; so little bit of both played my game things happened; good to see didn't shock me little bit of both.

Did it help to be away from home and in a secluded area in Arizona?

It did absolutely seeing all those players and tours down there; meet a lot of good guys and players so looking up to them trying to get to their level is kind of a good thing for me.

You went from being a Spud to being a Fighting Artichoke; do you feel spoiled with those nicknames?

Not so much; look for another vegetable!

How does your decision to go to Kansas affect your golfing career because people have seen players from this area go pro is that the next stop?

Coach Burnwell has coached some awesome players; Martin Laird; Zach Johnson he recruited Dave Schultz at Colorado State so this coach can get me to the next level program and facility that can get me to next level.
