2012 Minnesota high school state champion from Moorhead will now be playing Division 1 golf

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- The Red River Valley has been blessed to produce some terrific golfers from Amy Anderson to Dave Schultz to Tom Hoge.

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- The Red River Valley has been blessed to produce some terrific golfers from Amy Anderson to Dave Schultz to Tom Hoge.

Ben Welle is ready to add his name to the list, the 2012 Minnesota high school state champion from Moorhead will now be playing Division 1 golf.

Welle has received a scholarship to play at Kansas in the Big 12. Welle spent

the past season at Scottsdale Community College.

And was named a 1st team Junior College all-American and was a finalist

for the Phil Mickelson award which goes to the player of the year. He's seen his golf career take off and now a chance to really blossom.

Ben Welle- Heading to University of Kansas: "Kansas was a shock for me to get a call from them; but going D-1 was the goal from the start after going to junior college; basically had to go thru some qualifications to transfer after the first year went down for a visit got the feel of what they're doing and that was the plan after that."
