Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- People in Casselton are being asked to conserve water, after 2 water main breaks this morning.

There wasn't a drop of water in Casselton this morning.

Kevin Mayer- Public Works Supervisor: "A mess hahaha"

This was the scene beginning around 4:30 this morning... When a water valve burst. Flooding yards and covering streets with slippery mud.

Joan Thiel- Without Water: "Kind of puts a bad start to your day"

While leaving people living nearby with nothing in the faucet.

Larry Fontaine- Lives Next to Break: "I woke up, looked outside, saw all the water."

Thiel: "There was no water for showers.."

Make that no water at all, for the entire city.

Mayer: "By the time we got everything shut down, we ended up having to shut down the whole town"

Crews worked nonstop to fix the break. But ran into problems with all of the already saturated surroundings.

Mayer: "It was just a soup bowl"

And once they got things fixed... Another water main break hit further north.

Fontaine: "No big deal, i'm going to the lake"

Even though the problem is now fixed, city officials are still asking people living in town to restrict their water use for the next day or two.

The city's strict water ban will last for at least the next 24-hours.
