Fargo, ND (WDAY TV)-- While most farmers are strugging with crops this season, there's one that's thriving, and bringing booming business to Casselton.

Rhubarb is the pick of the season for Cassleton's Maple River Winery, where employees are getting more of the plant than ever before.

They say unlike many crops, Rhubarb has to have a hard freeze, to really take off.

So this winter's extreme long-lasting cold is making for an excellent rhubarb harvest. Meaning more wine for their customers.

Greg Kempel- Owner Maple River Winery: "This year with the abundant moisture it's been phenomenal. Normally we bring in about 3 or 4 pounds per plant. This year we're over 5 pounds per plant. We'll be over 50,000 pounds probably by the end of the month."

All of the rhubarb comes from farmers across North Dakota.
