Houston, TX (WDAY TV) -- Just over a week after doctors implanted a set of lungs into Fargo's Jordan Peterson, the 10-year old walked out of Texas Children's Hospital this afternoon.

And while Jordan can't wait to get home to Fargo and Bison games at the Dome, he will spend the next few months here in Houston, having frequent tests and check ups following the lung transplant just days ago.

It has been awhile since Jordan Peterson has taken a full breath of air. And today, 100 degree heat and stifling humidity was probably not a good test of the new lungs here in Houston. But none the less, Jordan left the hospital, a changed boy, preparing to celebrate his 11th birthday on the 4th of July.

It has been a journey of ups and downs….Jordan's parents say the 10 year old has taught them to appreciate every day….a gift. Today, the 10 year old begins a new life….a new birthday really. The day someone gave him the biggest gift of life. The chance to breathe again, to live again.
