West Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- West Fargo is preparing to lay out the 2014 budget, but the city's rapid growth has it's challenges.
City Administrator Jim Brownlee says in the ten years he has been there, the budget has skyrocketed from 10-million dollars to 50-million dollars. The 2014 preliminary budget is up about a million from 2013.
They aim to add enough personnel to keep the same level of services for a constantly swelling population.
Brownlee says, "Departments all as we keep growing, they all want more people. People are the largest part of our budget, just like most municipalities. We try to outweigh, as you have the growth, you have increased valuation. So, we try to keep our tax rate the same."
West Fargo City Commission will begin budget talks on Monday. The preliminary budget includes a new police station and four new officers.
