Pelican Rapids, MN (WDAY TV) -- This school year, may mark the last of 4 day weeks for the Pelican Rapids School District.

A commissioner from the Minnesota Department of Education has recommended the district go back to full school weeks, after this coming year.

Superintendent Deb Wanek says increased funding from the state may give them the opportunity to pay for 5 day weeks, but she says they're still not sure why the state wants the switch.

Wanek says, "it could be just because many schools did it for financial reasons, and if the legislative changes allow us more money, she might just be saying now you have the break to go back."

The district sent a letter to the commissioner, asking why she recommended the switch back to a full week.
