Houston, TX (WDAY TV) - Ten-year-old Jordan Peterson of Fargo got a lifesaving transplant one week ago and now he is looking at a release from Texas Children's Hospital, tomorrow, to the family's RV just a few miles away.

Last night we heard from Jordan about this incredible journey of endurance and faith. Tonight, his parents and their little boy has taught them so much about living.

What a story they can tell.

Jordan Peterson, Lung Transplant Patient: “Here are my Legos.”

This mom and dad, who along with Jordan and a brother set up camp here at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston eight months ago. It was the one and only medical center that would take him. He would either leave here with new lungs or be remembered as the boy who fought and never gave up.

Annette Peterson, Jordan’s Mom: "Just to be able to hear those deep breaths and know that he has been given a second chance at a longer life."

Jordan got the gift and knows the value of life.

Jordan: "It is a lot easier to breathe and I feel like I am taking easier and deeper breaths."

Here he is and here are Dan and Annette Peterson. They have lived in an RV resort since last fall, watched their son go through disappointment and celebration. And every roller coaster ride imaginable in between. And a young boy…

Annette Peterson: “99.9 percent of the time went through the struggle without complaining. Ever.”

And they all look forward to simple things.

Annette Peterson: "To run around again, just run around, he had no stamina for it. To be a kid. Be a kid. Nice for him to be a kid again. "

And a family that has lived in an RV the last eight months has learned a lesson from downsizing.

Annette Peterson: “The important things in life are not the stuff. The people, you know, we can survive in this. We don't need all that. And it has been wonderful to know that and we learned an awful lot from that little guy. An awful lot. "

But their young son has taught them so much. As they have all faced the realities of what realistically could happen, it was Jordan who stood out, as the young life philosopher.

Dan Peterson, Jordan’s Dad: "You never give up and take each day you are given as a gift."

Annette Peterson: "Words, there are no words, he means the world to us."

And not a moment goes by the parent of Jordan do not pause to think of the unselfish gift given by that mother and father who had to say good bye to a child and chose to give life to Jordan.

Dan Peterson: “I think that that living flesh, his lungs that has made this big difference. Came from a gift in a time of great tragedy you are overwhelmed with thanks and gratitude.”

One boy, two parents. None of them refused to give up. Ever. and tonight, Jordan breathes.

Dan Peterson: “He has taught us perspective when you think about when we would get down, we would think about that donor family, we have another day.”

Kevin will have much more on Jordan's Journey in tomorrow's Forum.
