Memphis, TN (WDAY TV) - The journey has taken Dave Joerger from Staples, Minnesota to Bismarck to Sioux Falls to now the top position in his profession; that's head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies.

The former Dragon and Cobber standout was officially introduced this morning to take over a franchise that just made the Western Conference Finals.

Joerger has paid his dues. He's been an assistant with the Grizzlies since 2007. Prior to that he made his name in the D-League with stops in Bismarck and Sioux Falls and says that's where he really learned how to coach.

Dave Joerger, New Memphis Head Coach: “My time in the minor leagues I would not be able to sit here without having been a head coach there. There are guys that have got jobs without being a head coach certainly we all know, for me those seven years being in the trenches dealing with players the last minute executions the playoff games, I can go on and on and on, those prepared me more than anything."

Current MSUM Dragons head coach and fellow Staples native Chad Walthall was in Memphis for the press conference.

That's now two former Dragons coaching in the pros. Joerger joins Marc Trestman who was hired to coach the Chicago Bears back in January.
