Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Summer Camp usually means the lake, campfires and sandcastles. Today, Kamp Kace rolled out the red carpet for its campers with a beauty salon.
When you think of camping you typically think of roughing it, but here at Kamp Kace some much deserved campers are given the red carpet treatment.
Ellen Gregoire, Camper: “I like the hair.”
Kamp Kace isn't your typical camp. Its name stands for “Kids Against Cancer Everywhere.”
For 27 years, kids currently with cancer or who have had cancer along with their siblings get the chance to meet up, swim, hike, have campfires and the most anticipated pampered.
Janeen Kobrinsky, Kamp Kace: “So that kids with cancer can just be kids. It doesn't matter if you're in a wheel chair, if you've got funny things sticking out of your chest for chemo, it doesn't matter. Everyone gets it here and everybody’s the same.”
Beauty experts from Hair Success took the road trip today to make it all possible.
Kobrinsky: “It’s like going to the spa, only the spa came here.”
Ten-year-old Ellen Gregoire who was diagnosed with leukemia when she was five…
Gregoire: “I had to get my, like they put a port in and I had to get that to access blood drawn from it a lot so they don't have to put an IV in all of the time.”
Says getting her hair and nails done is what she looks forward to the most year after year.
Gregoire: “That’s really important to me and I have a really good time here.”
The main purpose for today, to make sure as the campers get primped and dolled up it's not about cancer. But just being a kid, and doing things kids like to do.
Hair success has been doing the day of beauty at this camp for seven years.
