Wolverton dealing with flash flooding following Tuesday storm

Wolverton, MN (WDAY TV) - A small Minnesota community is dealing with destruction. Wolverton received about nine inches of rain, all in a very short amount of time. That has led to flash flooding, leaving the entire town, swamped and basements flooded.

6:30 AM Update

Around 2AM MinnDOT came out to Highway 75 to block it off because water is reaching over the road. Many residents have been evacuated; some can't even reach their homes because the water is so high. Another woman says her neighbor barely escaped her flooded home.

Donna Johnson - Wolverton: "she was in the house when it all came rushing in and surrounded the house with water. All of us came rushing around and they went around back and got her out. Got the car moved and everything so she’s at least outside of the house now.

Rains are not as heavy as they we were earlier in the night, and the water does seem to be going down.

6 AM Update

Since two this morning MinnDOT has blocked off a quarter mile stretch because water is flowing over the road. Residents have been evacuated, urged to stay with family and friends.

We talked with one woman who says she's never seen anything like it.

Donna Johnson - Wolverton: "It's pretty scary. Even in the 90's, ‘96 when we had that big flood, and it didn't do this. This is, in all the years I've lived here nothing like this has ever happened. "

You can literally just hear how fast this water is rushing, And this whole area are homes which Are completely under water. Nine inches of rain slammed this tiny town in a matter of just a few hours. Now many residents are seeking shelter with family and friends, including one man who is forced to stay in the church until he can get back home.

Paul Skoblick - Wolverton: "Daylight brings a new pair of eyes and new solutions. Be a lot of clean up, and wait until the water goes down and go from there."

It might be hard to believe but MinnDOT says this water is receding.
